The Internal Security forces entered Al-Hasakah and the rural areas of Kobani—how did the first day of the agreement go?
Explained Muhsen AlMustafa, a researcher at the Omran Center for Strategic Studies, during his appearance on the program “Syria Today” on “Syria TV” to discuss the path of “the return of state sovereignty,” that the agreement with «SDF» has entered a decisive test, emphasizing that the continuation of violations—especially the arrest of civilians for having welcomed the Internal Security forces—poses an existential threat to any settlement. He considered that the failure to immediately release detainees, and the failure to show “a genuine intent” to abide by the agreement, practically means the agreement is threatened with being overturned, which could return the situation to square one and make a resumption of military operations more likely.
He added that doubts about «SDF» intentions are based on a record of unimplemented agreements, questioning the point of repeating successive understandings if intentions were truly sincere. He also argued that the curfew and the media ban aimed to limit residents’ ability to show their welcome for the Internal Security forces more than they were security measures.
He affirmed that extending state sovereignty is a settled, irreversible path, with near steps that include taking over Qamishli Airport, border crossings, and oil fields, then later the civil departments, stressing that the state will impose its sovereignty whether «SDF» accepts it or not.
